- Bio
James Haseltine was educated at Reed College and the Museum Art School in Portland, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Brooklyn Art Museum School. He was a reporter for the Stars and Stripes during World War II. Although Haseltine was in the wholesale hardware and industrial supply business in Portland, he pursued an active career in art. He exhibited at the Brooklyn, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, and Oakland Museums, the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and in private galleries.
Haseltine was extremely involved in the Artists Equity movement and devoted much of his time to that organization. He was president of the Oregon chapter from 1953 to 1954 and national director of Artists Equity from 1955 to 1958. From 1954 to 1956 he was vice-president of the Oregon Art Alliance, a state-wide organization of museums, art centers, and art schools. Haseltine worked in art development for Reed College and was the chairman of the painting exhibition for the Oregon Centennial of 1959. His wife, Maury Haseltine, was also an artist.
