Description

Umbrico explores the ways in which the web has become the primary source of photo-based information. She sifts through millions of images uploaded to sites such as Craigslist, Flickr, and eBay, often creating large-scale installations that suggest the overwhelming number of photographs being produced worldwide each day.

In her series Moving Mountains, Umbrico applies digital technologies to analog images. She rephotographs traditional mountain landscapes with her iPhone, and then manipulates the images with popular filters. The application of these filters distorts the original photographs in strange and unexpected ways, destabilizing the concept of the analog image and the traditional mountain view.
