One of Japan's most celebrated potters, Fukami Sueharu is famous for his precisely carved porcelain sculptures glazed in pale blue. He forms his pieces in a plaster of Paris mold at high pressure, then carves fluid curves and sharp edges, finishing with a translucent, blue-green glaze applied with an air compressor. The result is a flawlessly smooth, almost glass-like surface, and an elongated, sleek form suggestive of a winged shape.
