The Dagmar Salén was a regular visitor to ports along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. Named after the first female Olympic medalist in sailing and launched in 1937, the ship was hailed for its technologically advanced power plant consisting of four engines and up to 4,400 horsepower. With a cargo capacity of 9,500 tons, it was often loaded in Portland with wheat for export to Asia, Europe, and South America.
