The 1920s were a time of desperate poverty and hunger in Germany due to rampant inflation. Here, supplicating children raise their bowls in hopes of a meal. This image was commissioned as a poster for the Internationale Arbeiterhilfe (International Workers' Welfare Organization), and was later reissued as a print without text, seen here.
