Around 1857, Charles-François Daubigny constructed a boat that could double as his studio. He used his bateau-atelier to travel to mysterious corners and islands in the Oise and Seine rivers. His explorations led to a series of etchings published as Voyages en bateau.
This rapidly executed print captures a quiet moment in the cozy floating studio as the artist sketches the landscape through the boat's window.
