Bio

John Ballator was an artist with the WPA. He was awarded the commission to paint a mural for the St. Johns Post Office in Portland, and hired Louis Bunce and Eric Lamade to assist him with the project. He also created murals for Portland's Franklin High School in 1934 and the Department of Justice Building in Washington, D.C. He was an art teacher at Hollins College in Virginia for thirty-one years, where he became the chairman of the art department in 1951. He founded the Roanoke, Virginia Fine Arts Center. Ballator frequently returned to Portland for the summer.
