Description
Only borough of New York City on the mainland, comprising land northeast of Harlem river and adjacent islands. It was settled by a Dane (acting for the Dutch) Jonas Bronck in 1641; underwent rapid urban development in the first half of the 20th century. Coextensive with Bronx county.
