Description

James Ensor took up printmaking in 1886, the same year he created this intricate image of a towering cathedral surrounded by teeming crowds. The building is a fantastic amalgamation of architectural elements from three European cathedrals—those of Aachen, Antwerp, and Vienna—and seems to shimmer and dissolve in the afternoon light.
