Description
Original Amerindian site was known as Nonotuck, meaning "middle of the river"; expanded with wool mill 1809, canal to Connecticut 1834, railroad 1845 & Smith College for women 1875; President Calvin Coolidge served as mayor 1909-11 & died here 1933.
