Description
England's sixth largest port, Liverpool rapidly expanded due to trade with the Americas and the West Indies in the 18th century. The first dock opened in 1715 and is now 7 miles long. The city was the destination of many Irish immigrants during the Irish famine (1845-1848). During World War II, it was heavily bombed.
