- Bio
Venetian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770) is known chiefly as a painter and brilliant draftsman. His fresco cycles as well as religious and mythological canvases of rich color, dramatic flair, and erudition firmly places him in art history as the most renowned painter of 18th century Italy. Tiepolo was also a printmaker, and during his life he produced thirty-eight etchings, all but six in two published series, the Capricci and the Scherzi di fantasia. He is the last great representative of the grand tradition in Italian art.
