One of the most significant African American artists of his time, Hale Woodruff had a major impact as a professor at both Atlanta University 1931–1946 and New York University 1946–1968. Woodruff trained in Paris, where he was influenced by Cubism, but he developed his distinctive American regionalist style during his Atlanta years. This lively linocut is one of eight prints from Woodruff's portfolio Selections from the Atlanta Period gifted to the Museum in 2013.
