Bio

Florence Heidel, married to artist Frederick Heidel, taught at Long Beach City College, California, the University of Southern California, and Portland State University. She came to Oregon in 1949, moving to Portland in 1953. She felt an artist must learn to talk with brush and color; painting was, for her, an entire language with an unlimited vocabulary--a language to learn and love. She considered her landscapes to be portraits of the land. Her earlier work can be found under the signature Florence Saltzman.
