A Navy combat artist during World War II, Demetrios Jameson came to Oregon in 1950. He was an assistant professor of art at Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) from 1950 until his retirement in 1982. Jameson exhibited throughout the United States and won awards in St. Louis, Denver, Seattle, and Portland.

Jameson's earlier works were almost exclusively figures. The female figure was used as a symbol of strength and creation; children seemed caught on canvas at a significant moment in a complex game. His treatment was formal and linear, with jewel-like colors. When Jameson moved into landscapes he retained a similar palette. He sought to express the purity and essence of an idea in a simple form.

"Art," Jameson said, "is a document of the personality of the artist: his soul, mind, sensitivity and his temperament. It is a constant search for his own true self. It becomes his way of life, his document of the century in which he lives."
