Bio

Yoshida received her BFA from Wakô University in Tokyo, but she began her training in childhood as a member of the Yoshida printmaking family. Her grandfather Hiroshi, uncle Tôshi, and father, Hodaka, were all printmakers of international renown, and she follows two generations of powerful women artists as well: her grandmother Fujio, and mother, Chizuko. (All but Fujio are represented in the Museum's collection.)

Ayomi's formal training in printmaking began in 1979 when she was engaged in research at the Mendocino Art Center in California for her senior thesis. She was struck by the translucence and layering made possible by silkscreen printing, which inspired her to try for the same effect in woodblock.
