Description

This urn-form water jug by Philadelphia silversmith, Anthony Rasch, is one of his most ambitious works. It incorporates Federal motifs from the new republic such as the eagle, anthemia, and Greek key designs. It is inscribed with the initials of Joseph Reed Ingersoll (1786-1868), a prominent Philadelphia politician, lawyer, and former Attorney General of Pennsylvania, U.S. Ambassador to England, and Congressman.
