Description

This centerpiece textile by Lee Chunghie was inspired by the spirit of bojagi, a traditional type of wrapping cloth of unique geometric aesthetics made by women for functional purposes.

Bojagi capture the history of women of the Joseon period (1392–1910), who led a secluded life in the anchae (ladies' room) in a patriarchal society. Lee's work alludes to these hidden women who found in fiber art an outlet for creativity and beauty during a time when they had few opportunities for personal expression.
