Max Klinger illustrated Apuleius’s tale in which Cupid falls in love with the princess Psyche in a suite consisting of forty-six plates. The prints detail the story of clandestine love, jealousy, and heartbreak, and the ultimate triumph of love. This selection of plates from the opus demonstrates Klinger’s virtuoso use of etching and his masterful sense of composition and drama.
