The Portland Dry Docks were located south of the Willamette River's Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge. As with a number of his industrial scenes, White captures an unusual view of the facility, emphasizing the striking vertical and horizontal lines of the buildings. The artist further abstracted the composition by flipping the negative: both letters and numbers are reversed in the print.
