Towards the end of his life, Pablo Picasso lived and worked in the town of Mougins, in southern France. From March to October 1968, the eighty-seven-year-old Picasso created 347 etchings largely focused on the erotic nature of the artist-model relationship. He often made several prints in one day; the summary execution and quickly sketched lines of these prints point to Picasso's speed of working, as well as to his intensity, echoed here in the focused gaze between artist and model.
Both Red Grooms and Warrington Colescott pay homage to Picasso's Suite 347 in prints in the next section of this exhibition.
