Details

Boxes for holding matches; used especially with reference to small, pocket-sized, rectangular boxes. They can range from boxes made of metal and often having rounded corners and ornate decorations, made either with a hinged lid or a sliding drawerlike compartment, to a simple, small rectangular box of cardboard comprising a sliding compartment, usually with a roughened strip on the side for striking matches. Although these boxes may be called "pocket match safes," use "match safes" for larger, often wall-mounted boxes for holding matches.
