Created in and depicts: Oregon
Though best known for his stunning wintertime photographs of Mount St. Helens, Mount Hood, and many other Northwest ski locations during the 1940s and 1950s, Ray Atkeson actively photographed the Oregon landscape during all seasons. Taken near Rooster Rock State Park along the Columbia River, this photograph of a herd of sheep is pleasantly bucolic and painterly, and is similar in feel to photographs produced decades earlier by Adolphe Giraudon"s anonymous artist and Myra Albert Wiggins, also on view in these galleries.
