Description

Richard Misrach has photographed the landscape for more than forty years, frequently charting humankind’s impact on the natural environment. In the 1970s he belonged to a small group of photographers who popularized color photography, and he was an early proponent of large-scale color prints. Misrach began his ongoing series Desert Cantos in 1979, methodically photographing the desolate beauty of the American Southwest as well as the unnatural changes affecting the desert due to tourism, military activity, and other significant human interventions.
