Bio

Mickalene Thomas is a leading American artist with a multidisciplinary practice that includes painting, photography, installation, and film/video. Her work primarily addresses themes of beauty and identity experienced through the many subjectivities of African-American women. Thomas combats stereotypes and celebrates both individual and cultural notions of black female self-awareness and desire. Her work has been honored, exhibited and collected across the United States and abroad.
