Bio

Ōno Bakufū, born in Tokyo in 1888, first trained as a painter in the Western style (that is, natrualistic works in oil on canvas). Later in his career he switched to 'Nihonga' or Japanese-style painting, using traditional vegetable and mineral pigments on paper or silk. He also took up designing prints. He is mot famous for hjim images of fish and other marine creatures.
