The son-in-law and adopted heir of Nishizawa Senko (1864-1914), a writer and collector of dolls and toys, Tekiho studied under Araki Kanpo (1831-1915) and Araki Jippo (1872-1944), a father-and son pair of Nihonga painters who specialized in bird-and-flower painting. Tekiho regularly submitted works to the Bunten and Teiten salon competitions and served as a judge for Teiten. He was most famous for his charming paintings of traditional dolls and, following in his adoptive father's footsteps, he became a serious collector and scholar of dolls.
