Bio

Bar-Am was born in Berlin, but grew up in Haifa, Israel. He began taking pictures while at a kibbutz in 1953, and from 1957 to 1966, he worked for an Israeli Army magazine. In 1967, he became a member of Magnum and has since then been working for the New York Times. Bar-Am has documented the history of Israel from the Sinai campaign of 1956 to the Gulf War of 1991.
