Description: Founded by Rājā Gunakamadeva in 723; taken in 1768 by Gurkha kings who made it their capital; British seat of administration 18th cen.; heavily damaged by earthquake 1934; city has several Hindu temples, Buddhist pagodas & a 16th-cen. royal palace.
