Description

In this series, Brand documents Winogrand as he confidently approaches and photographs a group of four women engrossed in conversation. They appear to ignore Winogrand in the first image, and in the next a passerby watches him with a wary gaze. In the final picture, one woman from the group strides forcefully towards Brand's camera, while Winogrand, his subjects having dispersed, looks blankly ahead. The contact sheet from Brand's roll of 35mm film shows all seven photographs made of this interaction, as well as the street scenes that attracted Brand's eye both before and after the event. An englargement of twenty-four of the frames is on display to the right of the original contact sheet.
