Description
County in the East Midlands of England, on the east slope of the Pennine Mountains. Sherwood Forest, haunt of legendary Robin Hood, is located north of Nottingham city. Farmland and dairies in Vales of Trent and Belvoir are famous for Stilton cheese; coal measures and small mining towns characterize the west. The main industrial town is Nottingham, an independent unitary authority since 1998.
