Description

Oregon artist Frank Boyden and calligrapher Margot Voorhies Thompson collaborated on this menu inspired by James Ensor's Menu pour Charles Vos, also in this exhibition. The occasion was a special dinner to celebrate the opening of the 2007 exhibition Conversations Across Time, Ensor, Boyden at C. G. Boerner Gallery, New York. Boyden continued Ensor's witty theme, serving up mégalosor (megalosaurus) and offering cuissot d’ange de Firman (angel haunch of Firman), playfully teasing Tom Firman, a collector of both Ensor's and Boyden's work.

The edition number of each impression can be deduced by the number of flies depicted; this sheet, edition 31 of 35, has thirty-one of these buzzing pests.
