Description

Architect and artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi devoted his life to studying ancient temples, sculptures, and objects unearthed in Rome, which he recorded in hundreds of beautifully rendered etchings. These sheets—created at the end of his life and probably completed by his son—come from a series devoted to the decorative arts. Fauns, satyrs, and other mythological creatures adorn these two vases, adding a playful touch to these monumental urns.
