Genus of ruminant, hollow-horned mammals containing seven to nine species, including the wild goat, ibexes, the markhor, and the subspecies of domestic goat. The classification of goats is in flux based on new DNA research, and in some older classifications includes Ovis (sheep) and Ammotragus (Barbary Sheep), which are separate genera in other classifications. The Rocky Mountain goat is a separate genus, Oreamnos.
