Description

This charming plate is typical of wares made in the late Ming dynasty at commercial kilns in southeast China for markets in Southeast Asia and Islamic states bordering the Arabian Sea. In the central landscape, a waterfall gushes forth from a mountain range, splitting in half a large pagoda and arching over three smaller pagodas. On the cavetto (the curved walls of the plate), cusped arches frame four small, irregularly spaced lakeside landscapes. In between these are four rectangular inscriptions, each reading yutang fugui (Jade Hall filled with nobility and wealth).
