Nakamura Tokizô III (1895-1959), who acted under that stage name from 1916 until a year before his death, was a noted onnagata actor who specialized in wife roles. He is depicted in this print as the dancer Shizuka Gozen, lover of the warrior Yoshitsune in the play, “Yoshitsune senbon zakura.”
