Eli & Edythe Broad/The Broad Art Foundation

Details

The Museum has received a major gift of 54 works from Eli and Edythe Broad, Los Angeles, and The Broad Art Foundation. Patrons of the Museum and frequent lenders to exhibitions, the Broads and their Foundation have given a group of American paintings and sculptures from the 1980s and 1990s that embody the return to painterly figuration and post-minimalist abstraction. Artists in the collection include painters Jonothan Borofsky, Richard Bosman, Robert Longo, Peter Schuyff, Donald Sultan, Sue Williams, and Terry Winters, and sculptors Saint Clair Cemin, John Duff, R.M. Fischer, and John Torreano. The gift expands the Museum's ability to present the aesthetic and theoretical dialogues of the New Figuration generation and the artists who followed in their wake. The Broad gift complements and deepens the Museum's contemporary collection and earlier gifts received from the Lannan Foundation, Peter Norton, and Ed Cauduro.
