Bio

Hirose Taizan was a samurai, a member of Japan's professional warrior class. As an attendant to the daimyō (feudal governor) of Tsuyama, he spent time in the great cities of Osaka and Edo, where he became acquainted with the leading Confucian scholars and painters of his time. For Taizan, painting was an avocation rather than a profession.
