Description

William Samuel Parrott came to Oregon as child. He opened his first studio in the National Bank Building in Portland in 1867 and remained there until 1887 when he began traveling throughout Oregon, Washington, and California. He returned to the Northwest to live in 1911, settling in Goldendale with his sister Jane.

Parrott's mountain landscapes were his most popular subjects, particularly his views of Mount Hood. He painted a number of variations on this theme from different viewpoints and at varying times of day.
