Description

Classical Chinese furniture is celebrated for the dignity of its proportions, the perfection of its joinery, and the inherent beauty of its materials. It is the product, however, of an essentially conservative tradition with a relatively limited repertoire of forms. Armchairs similar to this one were produced over many centuries, and only minor adjustments in proportions or in the treatment of details set one chair apart from others.
