Bio

Sugimura Jihei is now recognized as one of the pioneering artists of designs for single-sheet prints. Many of Jihei's earliest prints, which date from the 1680s and 1690s, were published in sets of twelve and depict amorous encounters, with the eroticism becoming increasingly explicit in successive images.
