The Museum’s collection of Native American art began in 1948 with the purchase of the Axel Rasmussen Collection. Numbering more than eight-hundred objects, most dating prior to the close of the nineteenth century, the Rasmussen Collection is widely-recognized as containing many of the finest works of Northwest Coast art in the world.
