Bio

Suzuki Kiitsu was born into a family of dyers in Ōmi province (modern Shiga prefecture), and many attribute his fine sense of color to his early exposure to textiles. At the age of 21, he became a pupil of the samurai artist Sakai Hōitsu, and in time came to be Hōitsu’s most adept follower in the decorative Rinpa school of painting.
